Charlie Lake Provincial Park only 6 km north of Fort St. John, this park has 37 campsites and has a developed beach, boat launch, fishing, playing field, hiking, and walking trails. Famous for walleye and northern pike. In winter, enjoy cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowshoeing. W.A.C. Bennett Dam, visit the W.A.C. Bennett Dam and witness an incredible engineering feat. Located on the eastern tip of Williston Lake, it is constructed with rocky debris from a glacial moraine left from the last Ice Age. Visit the Visitors Centre at 250-783-5211 for details on tours and information on generating electricity. Peace Canyon Dam is dam is located at the outlet of the Peace River Canyon and is 23 km downstream from the W.A.C. Bennett Dam, reusing the same water. Behind this Dam is a reservoir called Dinosaur Lake, named for the evidence of dinosaur fossils discovered during the dams construction. Contact the Visitors Centre at 250-783-9943 for fascinating information about the area as well as models of the dinosaurs. Dinosaur Lake is a man-made lake created during the construction of the two dams is now a recreation area with a boat launch and hiking trails. Peace River Scenic Viewpoint, pack a lunch and eat it while enjoying the breathtaking view of the magnificent Peace River Valley at the south end of 100th St. Worlds Largest Glass Beehive offers guided tours to get a close look at the Queen and her kingdom. Fascinating for children and adults alike. Oil Derrick located outside the Tourism Center, this 150 Ft high oil derrick becomes the stage during the summer months when free local entertainment is featured. Visit the many displays including a trappers cabin, Finchs Store, a one room hospital and a school. Local pioneers come in as tour guides. Fish Creek Community Forest is located 2 km northeast of town, guided and self-guided tours with trail guide books and 3 interpretive trails make this a fun, educational walk.
